If you’re new to college admissions, understanding the definitions for all the different types of application materials, financial aid options, and other terms can be difficult. That’s why I created this college admissions glossary to help families make the right decisions.

Partial List of Accredited Florida Colleges and Universities (Public & Private)

When selecting a college or university and before committing any money to it, it is important to know whether or not the school meets a certain standard of quality. With an accredited institution, a student has some assurance of receiving a good education and gaining recognition by other colleges and by employers of the course credits and degrees earned.

College Admissions Requirements May Include

  • SAT or ACT Test

  • College Application

  • College Tour

  • Applying for Financial Aid (to get money to pay for college)

  • Teacher Recommendation Letter

  • Counselor Recommendation Letter

  • Personal Statement/College Essay

  • Application Fee (money you pay to apply to each college)

  • Sending in your Transcripts (final report card)

  • Getting involved in extracurricular and leadership activities

Florida Bright Futures Scholarship

The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship is available to Florida high school seniors. Applications are available each year beginning December 1st. The scholarship is determined based on academic achievement in high school, SAT and ACT scores, and fulfillment of certain requirements.

 

There are three award levels: the Florida Academic Scholars Award and Florida Medallion Scholars Award. 

 

Florida Academic Scholars will receive an award amount equal to 100% of tuition and applicable fees. 

Florida Medallion Scholars will receive 75% of tuition and applicable fees.

The Florida Academic Scholar with the highest academic ranking in each county will also receive the Academic Top Scholars Award.
